Boardroom

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

- King Solomon, Proverbs 27:17

Two are better than one,

because they have a good return for their labor:

If either of them falls down,

one can help the other up.

But pity anyone who falls

and has no one to help them up.

Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm.

But how can one keep warm alone.

Though one may be overpowered,

   two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

- King Solomon, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

It has been a couple of years now since the church launched Boardroom, our Men’s Ministry…

… because every man needs a Board to encourage him, challenge him, and hold him accountable, and to pick him up when he falls. Boardroom is about helping men become the best men they can be.

As someone who has played a role in leading, supporting, and occasionally even speaking at it, I felt like it was time to comment on it publicly.

Boardroom is not the perfect ministry (there is none), it does not meet every need (none can), and, of course, everyone has an opinion on how they would do it differently (which is the nature of ministry). But it is amazing, it is meeting a need, and Pastors Jared, Josh, and Sean have done an outstanding job of leading it.

I have personally witnessed men grow in their walk with Jesus, bond with other men like never before, form accountability relationships, and start new Bible studies.

What else could one ask for in any ministry?

I see men looking forward to being together, including traveling 2+ hours north to a retreat center to hang out together for an entire weekend. I hear men asking when the next event or gathering will take place. That simply doesn’t happen unless there is a compelling reason to be there.

No, Boardroom is not for every man (though I think it should be), but as the group grows, both physically and spiritually, it becomes more and more attractive to all.

Men,

If you have not attended, or maybe you attended once or twice and decided it wasn’t for you, try it again. I guarantee you if you will put in the effort, it will be worth your time.

Ladies,

I can’t speak for Greenhouse (our women’s ministry), but I can ask that you check it out. The only way for something to positively impact you is for you to get involved.

Friends, we need one another. We were not created to operate on an island. We were created for fellowship and bonding with one another. As King Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 4, two are better than one, and when Jesus gets involved as well, it creates a cord that is not easily broken.

As we head into Fall, take a step of faith and get involved in Boardroom, or Greenhouse, for as King Solomon tells us in Proverbs 27:17, sharpening only occurs when we invite others into our life.

I pray you will check them out in the coming months. It may be the very next step God has prepared for you.
