Self-Inventory

Aug 25, 2023

One of my morning rituals is that from the moment I open my eyes, I do a self-inventory.

I ask myself: How am I feeling? Am I anxious? Am I calm? Am I frustrated? Am I rested?

Once I take that self-inventory and determine where I am, I lay that at the Lord’s feet in my morning time with Him. So if I’m anxious, I lay down my anxiety; I hand it over to Him. When I do that, two things happen: I take captive everything that’s not of the Lord and then I surrender it to Him. By releasing my inventory in that moment, I get my power back by putting the hard things in the hands of the One who can handle it all. As a result, I walk through my day much lighter, with more peace and trust in the Lord. I believe this is what 2 Peter 1:3 meant when it says that God “has given us access to everything we need to live a godly life.

He gives us the tools but it’s up to us to use them.

If you had to take a self-inventory today, what would it read? Are you anxious? Frustrated? Overwhelmed? Whatever it is, I urge you to take it captive and then lay it at the feet of Jesus. I don’t know about you but I had a tough week and the passage that brought me so much peace was Matthew 11:28-30. Jesus is speaking and He says,

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

- Matthew 11:28-30

Family, I pray today that as you take your self-inventory that your burden becomes lighter knowing that your rest is found in Jesus.
