Keep The Faith

Sermon Notes

Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
- John 20:29

Once more he visited Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain royal official whose son lay sick at Capernaum. When this man heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea, he went to him and begged him to come and heal his son, who was close to death. “Unless you people see signs and wonders,” Jesus told him, “you will never believe.”
- John 4:46-48

Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
- John 20:30-31

The royal official said, “Sir, come down before my child dies.” “Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. While he was still on the way, his servants met him with the news that his boy was living. When he inquired as to the time when his son got better, they said to him, “Yesterday, at one in the afternoon, the fever left him.” Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” So he and his whole household believed.
- John 4:49-53

Sermon Questions

Scriptures: John 20:29, 4:46-48, 20:30-31, 4:49-53

  1. What impacted you the most from Sunday’s message?

  2. Pastor Jared mentioned that many of us came to faith because we were desperate for something. Read John 4:46-48. This royal official was desperate for the healing of his son and made the journey even though he was not a believer. What made him think that Jesus would help him? As a believer, what stops you from going to Jesus with the fragile things in your life (i.e. faith is not strong enough)?

  3. Jesus performed many signs but only a few were recorded according to John 20:30-31. What was so significant about the miracle done for the Roman official? Do you believe God will perform miracles in your life when you see them or because you trust Him?

  4. Faith is trust; it is not a temperament, emotion or a talent. Pastor Jared mentioned that in the curiosity phase of faith, you will have doubts - but your doubt is a sign that you have faith in God. What did he mean? Discuss how faith the size of a mustard seed is enough to trust God with your miracles.

  5. In John 4:49-53, we see that faith multiplies. Are you sharing your faith? This week, find one person to share your faith with.

Pray

Let’s pray over our global “Go First” efforts via our missionary partners. Pray for the Lord to guide them as a whole and that their ministries continue to thrive. (You can find information about the global ministries on the church website: thechurchrb.org/global)

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
