Overflowing With Thankfulness

Sermon Notes

“For the last several centuries, the primary questions regarding God and the world were of dogma or practice: Who is God? What must I do to be a good person or to be saved? Every religion answered such questions differently, and human beings typically accepted what their natal faith taught them. But faith questions now center on finding God—Where is God?—and figuring out what discovering the sacred here means—How does God’s presence enliven our actions in the world?”
- Diane Butler Bass, Grounded

But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”
- Genesis 3:9

“…and I will be with you and will bless you.”
- Genesis 26:3

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.
- Genesis 6:9

That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
- Gen 26:24

11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”
12 And God said, “I will be with you.”
- Exodus 3:11-12

No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you
- Joshua 1:5

“Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with David…”
- 1 Samuel 18:12

Behold, I was shaped in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
- Psalm 51:5

21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
- Matthew 1:21-22

27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you,the hope of glory.
28 He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.
- Colossians 1:27-28

6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,
7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
- Colossians 2:6-7

For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
- Colossians 3:3

‘Neighborly’ - Daily Devotional

To get the Daily Devotionals delivered to you every morning, text ‘dailydevotional’ to 97000.

  1. In Pastor Sean’s 11/26/21 entry, The Day After Thanksgiving, he talks about being so full.... physically and spiritually. However, maybe you found yourself full of something else and you are tired. But Jesus is the solution and we can choose to respond to Him in our deepest seasons of hurt or lack. How did you see Jesus in your Thanksgiving? How did He show up? Why did He show up?

  2. In Pastor Pam’s 11/27/21 entry, Attitude of Gratitude, she opens with a reminder that Thanksgiving can be celebrated every day of the year. After reading the passage Luke 17:11-19, who do you identify with most of the time, the one healed leper that returned with gratitude on his lips, or the other nine? We all have our moments of being the other nine. So, to turn that thinking around, she suggests starting a gratitude journal. Make it a habit of writing down moments and things that you are grateful for. Reflect on these in your quiet time with God and see how they become part of suiting up for the battle of the day!

Pray

Pray this week that God will help you to see others through His eyes. That God will empower you to love and care for others the way He does. Ask God to make His presence known in every area of life. Thank Him for loving you enough that He sent His son to die for your sins. And lastly, ask God to place on your heart, what He’d like you and your family to give for Impact Offering. Amen.
