It’s A Hunger Thing

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness; for they shall be satisfied."

- Jesus, Matthew 5:6

"How bad do you want it? seems to be the question that determines just how much heart and mind and body and soul that we throw at something."

Ever played the game, "Catch Me If You Can?" Several weeks ago, my three year old grandson was chasing me, trying to catch me. Smiling and laughing as I dodged this way and that, it was not difficult for me as an adult to avoid being caught by a child. However, there came a point, when he became so frustrated that he stopped and cried out, "PawPaw!" His hunger to catch me caught my attention, and I turned and grabbed him up in my arms as I hugged and tickled him. His hunger to catch me caught my heart!

What if I told you there was so much more that's available to you in your relationship with God?

So many people I talk to these days are frustrated when it comes to God. They say, "Oh, I know a lot about God… what He's like and where He lives and what He wants from me and doesn't want from me… I know a lot about Him. But I don't really know Him.”

What if I told you that you could know how He felt about you with such intimate clarity that it would leave you breathless? What if I told you that you could sense His presence near you with such personal awareness that it would leave you with goosebumps? What if I told you that you could sense what He was doing behind-the-scenes in your life with such assurance that it could replace your panic with overwhelming peace?

Let me ask you a question: When's the last time you were really hungry to know God? The truth is, today, everybody is seeking ultimate satisfaction through other things than God. We have allowed the things of this world to satisfy our lives and satiate our hunger. We hunger after money, possessions, sex, security, power, jobs… first. But, haven't we learned in spades that nothing that impresses us seems to last? The thrill of that new car wore off… that expensive house impressed us briefly… the wow of that new boyfriend has become an ow in my side… that new deal has become an ordeal… which causes us to live in a perpetual state of "What's Next?" Why? Because God created us to be wowed by something bigger and better and far more beautiful than anything this world has to offer.

We were created to be wowed to the core of our being by the eternal glory of God… anything less will leave us hungering for something more.

So...here's my two cents: start hungering after God… first. Try this:

...You look at your phones a lot - look at God's Word more...

...You talk to other people all day long, texting, instagramming, facebooking - talk to God more...

...You seek money, health, security, possessions, sex, relationships, peace, fun… first - seek God first...

And as you chase after the Father who whispers, "Catch Me If You Can," don't be surprised if you find yourself caught up in an overwhelming sense of God's presence that leaves you speechless.

Your hunger to catch Him has caught His heart… to catch you. AMEN
