“We know that God works for all things together for the good of those who love Him and that God is faithful. We will fail God, we will fail our family, and our family might fail us at times, but God never fails us.”

- Nick Vujicic

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

- The Apostle Paul, Romans 8:28

I wish I did not have cancer. There, I said it. Cancer is one of the lemons of life that every cancer patient would rather not taste. But, the same can also be said by everyone who has debilitating pain, a birth defect, an accident or stroke that left them paralyzed, or mental health issues that make life nearly impossible to navigate.

Nick Vujicic, who I quoted earlier, was born with no arms and no legs, yet he proclaims, “God won’t allow anything to happen in your life if it is not for your good.”

No one asks for lemons, but as Pastor Jared explained, life is indifferent. It doesn’t really care. What matters is our response to it; and I, like Nick, choose to praise God for His faithfulness and the opportunity to turn the lemons into lemonade.

The cancer may be with me for the remainder of my life.

But by focusing on what God has given me the grace, strength and ability to do, rather than dwell on the things I cannot do, I find comfort, confidence and hope in the future He has for me.

As A.C. Dixon writes, “There is no kind of experience in which a Christian has a right to refuse to praise God, for ‘all things work together for good to them that love God.’”

God is faithful. He is with me and He is for me. That is the best lemonade I have ever tasted.
