House Of The Lord

Feb 14, 2022

Friends, this is our final devotional from Garden’s Music’s new album, “For the City.”

I hope you have downloaded the album and are making time to listen to it, and letting it enrich your lives.

We sing to the God who heals

We sing to the God who saves

We sing to the God who always makes a way

'Cause He hung up on that cross

Then He rose up from that grave

My God's still rolling stones away

- Excerpt from “House of the Lord” by Phil Wickham

37 When he [Jesus] came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”

40 “I tell you,” He replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”

-  Luke 19:37-40

In “House of the Lord” Phil Wickham reminds us of who God is and what He has done...

We worship the God who evermore will be

He opened the prison doors

He parted the raging sea

My God, He holds the victor

As a result, Phil goes on to write,

There's joy in the house of the Lord

There's joy in the house of the Lord today

And we won't be quiet

We shout out Your praise

Too often, we focus on and lament the struggles we face, the challenges before us, and the trials we are up against. As a result, we lose sight of who God is and what He has done for us. We forget how He carried us through the previous storms, the many blessings He has poured out on us, and His love, strength, power, grace, and mercy, all of which are available to us every day of our lives.

We need to spend more time praising God, for He is good, and His mercies are everlasting.

For as Jesus reminds us in Luke 19, “If we don’t praise Him, the stones will do it for us.”

I like the way Rev. Paul Jones puts it into words in his song...

With my voice, I will speak for You Lord

When I open my mouth, I will sing Your praise

With my hands, I will lift you Lord

For I don’t want no rocks crying out in my place

- Rev. Paul Jones, Don’t Want No Rocks

May we be a people of God who are intentional, consistent, and deliberate about praising our Lord each day, for He is worthy of our praise. He is the God who heals, the God who saves, and the God who always makes a way. He hung on the cross and He rose up from that grave. Our God is still rolling stones away.

So let’s not be quiet… Let’s shout our praise!
