Omri

Ever since I was a little girl, Easter Sunday has been ingrained in my mind as a big deal!

I recall my mom putting in hours to make Easter baskets, finding me the perfect Easter dress, dying eggs, and planning which egg hunts we were going to hit that year. With beautiful dresses, big hair bows, and ruffled socks, I was sharper than a number two pencil every Easter! Fast forward decades later and now I’m a mom, creating my own memories and traditions with my son Omri. And my desire this year is to start a new spiritual rhythm with him.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love a sharp Easter outfit and a top-notch egg hunt - can I get an amen? But, I am always seeking new and creative ways to show and teach Omri about Jesus so, starting next week, each day we will set aside time to have fervent prayer. Let me explain… the dictionary defines a fervent person as someone who “has or shows strong feelings about something and is very sincere and enthusiastic about it.”

Prayer has always been a priority in our family and, for the last few years, I have been slowly building a culture of prayer in our home. Of course, there’s the grace we say over our food, but I’m looking to take it a step further and model the posture of prayer to Omri in a way that’s new for him. So, as we approach Passion Week, I will teach Omri how to pray fervently and effectively by incorporating the following into our prayer time:

  • Begin with thanksgiving
  • Ask for forgiveness
  • Ask what you need
  • Pray the Word of God

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” As parents, it is our position to model Christ for our kiddos. By instilling these spiritual rhythms, my prayer is that when Omri is older and in need, he will turn to the things of God and not the things of this world. So, I’m really looking forward to this time together with Omri, and maybe you’d like to make this a new spiritual rhythm in your home too.

If so, let’s be intentional with this time, put down our phones, and model Christ.
