Spring Cleaning

Feb 16, 2022

We are almost a month out from our first day of spring. And if you’re like me, you go through a process of spring cleaning to declutter your home of all the things you no longer need.

Maybe it’s clothes, shoes, old toys… Whatever it is, you are getting rid of the old to make room for the new. Our walks with the Lord are no different. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Behold, the old is gone and the new is here.” Throughout Scripture, we see a constant theme of old and new. The Old Testament and the New Testament; our old life versus our new life in Christ.

Living the Christian life is a constant shedding of the old to embrace the new.

Isaiah 65:16-17 states,

Because the former troubles are forgotten and hidden from my eyes, I will create a new heaven and a new earth, the former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Family, God is doing a new thing! And so, let’s ask God how we can be a part of it! First, make room for Him. Make room for the new thing He will do. Make room for how He wants to use you in your families, community, and in His church.

Hebrews 13: 1-3 says,

No matter what, make room in your heart to love every believer. And show hospitality to strangers, for they may be angels from God showing up as your guests. Identify with those who are in prison as though you were there suffering with them, and those who are mistreated as if you could feel their pain.

Listen, God wants to use you to impact those around you! He wants you to lead with love and serve one another, not out of obligation, but out of the heart posture of hospitality and obedience. Our best example to follow is the life of Jesus. Yes, He went from city to city passing through, performing miracles, and impacting those who had the privilege of meeting Him. But Jesus also poured His whole heart into His disciples. Those who came in proximity to Him, experienced Him. He showed compassion, love, care, and kindness to everyone, regardless of one’s status and accomplishments.

May we not only learn from this example but be an extension of His example. I pray, this week, that you will make room for what God wants to do in and through you. I pray that this week is one that places you in the right place at the right time to speak into someone’s life. And, I pray that you’ll make room to serve others around you. If you call The Church at RB your home, volunteer to serve, whether it’s greeting, childcare, or handing out bulletins. All of these things please the Lord, your God! He never intended for us to keep to ourselves. Rather He wants each of us to be an extension of Him in every room we walk into.

So, will you make room for Him this week to move and do His thing? I hope so.
