Neighborly - Daily Devotional

To get the Daily Devotionals delivered to you every morning, text ‘dailydevotional’ to 97000.

  1. In the 7/18/22 entry, God Bless You, Pastor Ken shares the Aaronic blessing of Numbers 6:22-25 and a challenge for us to respond as the Psalmist did in Psalm 67:3-5. Similarly, try praying this blessing and response over your household, a group outing, an individual struggling with hope... and record what you see begin to happen! Report back to your group next week!
  2. In the 7/22/22 entry, Older in Years, Stronger in Jesus, Pastor Sean simply just asks us to join him in prayer as Psalm 71 people: Pray with me. Pray for our kids and youth. Pray for Psalm 71 volunteers to rise up. Amen. Discuss with your group this week, or maybe with your family, how God might be uniquely positioning you/them to pass the Gospel on to a hungry next generation.

Sermon Questions

Scriptures: Psalm 119:15; John 1:1, 1:9-10

  1. What impacted or challenged you in today’s message?
  2. Like the characters in the movie, describe a time when you were afraid to put your “hand in the hole.” In everyday situations, what motivates you to take a risk, or play it safe? How do you weigh the potential gains or losses?
  3. Pastor Jared described God’s Word (Bible) as a treasure map to locating the person of Jesus in your life. What clues have you uncovered about Jesus (NT), or the promise of Jesus (OT), that have led you to trust an invisible God? What has been hard or easy? What untruths have been undone in your faith?
  1. Pastor Jared’s message centered around Psalm 119:105. What is God’s lamp designed to illuminate? What is God’s purpose for His children in that? Does it frustrate you that God uses a lamp on your questions instead of a floodlight, or does it bring you peace? How, or why?
  2. Pastor Jared talked about God’s Word illuminating both His Providential Will and Moral Will - what are these definitions? How does obedience help you to discover His Personal Will for you so you can make your daily decisions? Share an example of how a step of obedience led you to an answer regarding a decision. What happened?
  3. Knowing God leaves some things a mystery, but provides a lamp to help us take our next step, what are you currently learning from an ancient conversation that is useful with a current question or decision? As a group, name some other examples that bring some understanding to the current day plans of God in our world.
  4. Do you know someone who has been afraid to put their “hand in the hole” regarding Jesus? What are their fears? Using the principle of lamplight, what clues can you drop to help him/her see that Jesus is the ultimate treasure they want and that he is for them?

This week, our High School students returned from Forest Home camp, and the Middle School students are there this week. Many of us may remember our own camp experiences as pivotal moments in our faith journey. Lift up these students and leaders and ask God’s Spirit to get ahold of their hearts in this exciting time of their life and bring a desire for true transformation in Christ!

“...being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
