Always Good
We are on the thirteenth day of Psalms for the Summer, where we are focusing on the corresponding chapter of Psalms each day. In Psalm 13, verse 1, we read King David’s plea...
How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?
I remember when my dad had his heart attack in his early 50’s and needed 5 bypasses during emergency surgery. While he seemed far too young to be having a heart attack, it was real, and we didn’t know if he would make it through it and what kind of quality of life he would have if he did.
My mom, my two sisters, and our entire family prayed and waited. While we believed in God’s faithfulness, we wondered where He was in that dark moment.
Following surgery, I remember walking into the recovery room only to see my father looking white as a ghost. I didn’t know what to expect. Was there hope for the future or was this the beginning of the end for him? We prayed and we trusted.
Fast forward 30 years and my father is healthy, vibrant, and active. I have trouble keeping up with his energy. We continually celebrate the second chance God gave him.
In Psalm 13, David wonders where God is. He feels forgotten and alone. Yet just four short verses later, David experiences a complete 180°, declares his trust in God, and sings his praises:
But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the Lord’s praise,
for he has been good to me.
- Psalm 13:5-6
Like David, we, too, can experience those times where we wonder where God is, whether He has completely forgotten us in our times of trouble. But, also like David, when we cry out to God, it does not take long for us to realize He was there the entire time, just waiting for us to call on Him. When we do, we, too, can declare our trust in His unfailing love, we can rejoice in knowing that He is our salvation, and we can sing His praises, for He is good to us.
Friends, I pray this week you will know that God is always faithful, that He will never leave nor forsake you.
When you are down and the weight of the world is on your shoulders, cry out to Him and trust in Him, for He is always good.
