Life Verse
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
- King Solomon, Proverbs 3:5,6
Proverbs 3:5-6 has long been what I call my life verse.
What is a life verse? By definition, it is a verse in the Bible that touches you personally, and awakens your belief in God’s love and plan for you.
That is what Proverbs 3:5-6 does for me. Whenever I read it or meditate upon it, it reminds me that my emotional and spiritual health, strength and intelligence, is not based on what I think or how well I comprehend, but how deeply I love and trust God and His plan for me.
God, and His Word, are my guiding values. They alone determine my well-being and my confidence. It is what God says about me and His plan for me that determine my emotional health. I stand tall and confident, not in any way due to who I am or what I have l done, but solely for “WHOSE” I am and the plan and purpose He has for my life.
I can face each day with intentionality coupled with a calm serenity because I know that I am a child of God, loved by Him and directed by His Holy Spirit to accomplish that which He has prepared, in advance, for me to do (Ephesians 2:10).
Knowing this gives me the courage to face each day, with all of its trials and tribulations, with a smile on my face and joy in my heart.
As the old song goes:
I’ve got joy, joy, joy, joy,
down in my heart,
down in my heart,
down in my heart.
I’ve got joy, joy, joy, joy,
down in my heart,
down in my heart to stay.
Why? Because, as one of the verses goes:
I’ve got the wonderful love of the blessed redeemer
way down in the depths of my heart,
way down in the depths of my heart,
way down in the depths of my heart.
The song goes on:
And I’m so happy, so very happy.
I’ve got the love of Jesus in my heart.
(Original Version: George W. Cooke)
I trust Jesus with all my heart, and I work every day to not lean on my own understanding. I choose to submit and surrender to Him, believing He will guide my paths.
And that, my friends, creates positive emotional health.
I encourage you to give it a try. First, surrender your heart to Jesus. Second, ask Him to lead and guide your steps, and third, trust His plan and His purpose for you.
I believe it will begin to change you, and your approach to life, in amazing ways.
