Battle Belongs
What would it look like for seven churches all over San Diego to be in sync and in harmony with what God wants to do in this city?
Out of obedience to let the sound of our region sing, Garden Music’s album, "For the City," was born. Each participating worship leader chose songs that will saturate the souls of our city and beckon us deeper toward Christ.
So from today until February 14, each devotional will cover one of the nine songs in the album that is dropping today.
Today's devotional and first song is called, "Battle Belongs."
Do you try to shoulder the battles that don't belong to you?
Or are you like me, where I complain about the battles I'm going through. And even at times, to be honest, I find myself blaming God for the battles.
God, why is this happening to me? Why today? Why this week, when there is so much going on already? I'm trying to be good, I'm trying to love You, God, but this is just too much.
Perhaps, it is financial battles of trying to budget and realizing you just don't have enough or relational conflicts with your roommate, friends, family members, and relatives who just seem to always escalate problems.
In these moments, all I see is the battle, the mountain, and the ashes.
But as the song goes:
When all I see is the battle, You see my victory
When all I see is the mountain, You see a mountain moved
When all I see are the ashes, You see the beauty
When all I see is a cross, God, You see the empty tomb
So when I fight, I'll fight on my knees
With my hands lifted high
Oh God, the battle belongs to You
This song ministers to me because it reminds me that God desires my participation in any battle and to trust in His promises.
Our participation is: I'll fight on my knees in prayer through the battle. The promise is trusting the battle belongs to the Lord.
Psalm 16:8 says it like this:
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
I believe there is someone today listening to this that is shouldering some battles that don't belong to you. Or, if you are like me, complaining and blaming God.
If so, pray this with me: "This battle belongs to you, Lord." Think about the battle weighing you down and repeat this prayer until faith arises in your heart. "This battle belongs to you, Lord."
Of course, this doesn’t mean that certain battles will go away. Jesus had to battle the Cross. He prayed, He fought on His knees, yet God the Father still had Him go through the Cross. His battle was for our eternal benefit.
This means there is an eternal purpose for every battle we go through. This is the power of God. Nothing can stand against the power of our God.
And as always, remember, you are loved today.
