Be The Light

“I am the light of the world… You are the light of the world.” - Jesus

Epiphany, otherwise known as “Three Kings Day,” began Thursday and ends tomorrow. Cristina wrote about it earlier this week. The Light of the world has come, and we have seen the light! In Isaiah 9:2, we read of the prophecy about the light of the world!:

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness - on them the light has shined.”

Ken talked two weeks ago about Simeon, who was described as “righteous and devout” by Luke. The Holy Spirit had assured him he wouldn’t die until he saw the Messiah, who was prophesied in Isaiah. Luke 2:29-32:

“Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”

Friends, have you truly experienced the light of the world, Jesus?

He came to earth to reveal the true nature of His Father in Heaven and show us what God is really like. The Bible tells us that God IS love (I John 4:8)!

Thomas Merton says: “We who have seen the light of Christ are obliged, by the greatness of the grace that has been given us, to make known the presence of the Savior to the ends of the earth… not only by preaching the glad tidings of His coming; but above all by revealing Him in our lives… Every day of our mortal lives must be His manifestation, His divine Epiphany in the world which He has created and redeemed.”

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

- Matthew 5:14

Have you ever met someone that just had something different about them? It’s a kind of glow! What you see, you may not even be able to express in words. No matter what is going on in their life, whether loss of job, cancer, or other challenges, they are always the first to ask how you are or to offer to help you out. I can guarantee it is the light of Christ radiating throughout every inch of their being!

That is the kind of light I want to exude! Just as Epiphany is the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi (Matthew 2:10-11), you and I have that opportunity, not just today, or through Epiphany, but to exude the love of Jesus through our words AND our actions, every day, in our homes, our neighborhoods, our workplaces and throughout the world!

Let’s be that city set on a hill and not let the light be hidden!
