Cast Your Cares On Him
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
- St. Peter, 1 Peter 5:7
I love 1 Peter because it is a letter from St. Peter to a group of churches in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey) who were established amid a culture and society that was far from God and desperately needed Him… but didn’t know it! Sounds all too familiar, doesn’t it?
That being said, I guess it is no surprise the church members may have been experiencing some anxiety, trying to figure out how to fit in while still being different, how to make it in a world whose morals and values were far different than the ones they were seeking to live out and even desiring to infiltrate the culture around them.
Seemingly impossible tasks tend to create frustration, anxiety and hopelessness. Sounds a lot like the world we live in today. So, what does Peter tell us to do? “Give all our cares to Jesus.”
We gain nothing by carrying worry and anxiety, In fact, it is debilitating and paralyzing. Our only hope is to give it all to the One who is greater than he who is in the world. We must remember that Jesus said in John 16:33, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
As we move into the New Year, the task before us as God’s church to help shape and form the community around us is bigger and more difficult than ever. We face an uphill battle with roadblocks seemingly around every turn.
But, God does not call us to fix it. That’s His job. Our task is to remain faithful to Him, showing our love for Him by the way we love others, seeking to change one heart and one life at a time.
God has already won the war. We already know that in the end He will rule and reign. Meanwhile, we have some battles to fight, but not on our own.
We are simply to be obedient, remain faithful to Him, and whenever it seems even the least bit overwhelming, our first and most important step is to cast all our cares, our worries, and our anxieties on Jesus, because He cares for us. By His grace, His mercy, and His power, we will overcome, He will be glorified, and we will be blessed. All praise to God the Father and Christ Jesus the Son.
Let’s claim that promise together in 2022. Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you.
