Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff
I was having a conversation with a few of our counselors here at the church, and we were discussing the importance of having a healthy identity in Christ.
The question was posed: why is it so hard to believe what God says about us? We’ve all heard verses like, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14), “You are the head and not the tail, you are above and not beneath” (Deuteronomy 28:13). Yet 85% of our world struggles with low self-esteem and self-worth.
Family, when we give our life to Jesus, we are made new!
In fact, we are image-bearers of the one true God. So, why can it be so challenging to walk in that truth? Here’s what you need to know: the enemy doesn’t want to see you flourish, so he attacks your self-worth. But we have to be intentional in our choosing. Let me explain what I mean by that:
- We must choose to embrace newness in Jesus.
- We must choose to believe what God says about us over the what the world says.
- We must choose to silence the lies of the enemy.
And, the best way to do all of these is to open our hearts and grab ahold of God’s truth. Really get it into your spirit.
Family, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom - freedom from self-doubt, low self-esteem, and diminishing self-worth. Think about the people of Israel. They were God’s chosen people, yet they still struggled to embrace that truth and walk in it. The enemy has been coming for our identity for centuries! But, like the people of Israel, you too, are chosen. The Bible says you are a part of the royal priesthood. You are also called. And God is making you more and more into His very image. 2 Corinthians 3:16-18 says:
But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
- 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
Because we serve a good God who has given each of us free will, we have the opportunity to “choose.”
Today, choose truth over the lie. Choose freedom. Choose an open heart. Choose Jesus.
