Dwell Well

May 18, 2022

These past few days have been amazing!

I have family visiting from out of town because my youngest sister is graduating from San Diego State. So right now, I am sitting here having coffee with my grandad - one of my favorite things to do with him. I have so many memories with my grandad, sipping coffee and talking for hours. He tells the best stories, and in these special moments, I learn something new about him and something new about myself. One thing that’s true is that our families of origin shape who we are, so it is truly a treat to spend time chatting with my grandad about family and faith.

You know, one of the things that God has been impressing upon my heart by way of Pastor Jared’s new series, Noah, is the idea of legacy and dwelling in the Lord. In light of eternity, we will dwell with God after death. But what must we do to dwell with the Lord now? To walk in faith and fellowship with the living God? Well, David tells us in Psalm 15 saying:

1 Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?

   Who may live on your holy mountain?

2 The one whose walk is blameless,

   who does what is righteous,

   who speaks the truth from their heart;

3 whose tongue utters no slander,

   who does no wrong to a neighbor,

   and casts no slur on others;

4 who despises a vile person

   but honors those who fear the Lord;

who keeps an oath even when it hurts,

   and does not change their mind;

5 who lends money to the poor without interest;

   who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

Whoever does these things

   will never be shaken.

- Psalm 15:1-5

When I first read this passage, I thought to myself, “Wow, that is a tall order, Lord. Where do I begin?” But I believe this passage isn’t to discourage us, but rather to motivate us to strive for righteousness.

God isn’t asking for perfection. But, He is asking for a heart that is postured to Him.

So, seek righteousness, speak truth, love your neighbor, stand up against evil, be a person of your word, and give to the poor without expecting anything in return. Do these things and you will never be shaken!

Let’s be a people who stand firm on the Word of God. Whatever comes up against us, we will not be shaken because our foundation is in the One.

So Father God, I pray that you would help us to dwell even now. God, be the light guiding us throughout our days. We look forward to one day dwelling in eternity with You but for now, help us to dwell well with you on earth that we may reflect your Son, Jesus.

In Your Name, Amen.
