"The Good News is about God's Son. In His earthly life He was born into King David's family line, and He was shown to be the Son of God when He was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord."

- St. Paul, Romans 1:3-4

"The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can for me change this."

- Albert Einstein

When the Apostle Paul wrote this letter to the followers of Jesus in Rome, he knew that the majority of Romans either worshiped a pantheon of Roman gods or they embraced world views that had nothing to do with God at all. They had no God they believed created the world or sustained the world or authored love or provided a moral compass for living life on the planet. So much has changed since then hasn't it? (smile) Which is why, more than ever, it's important to know why we believe what the Bible says about God. So, in the same Spirit that inspired Paul to write Romans, let me tell you what the Bible says about God.

God tells us who He is in 66 books of the Bible -- written by 40 different authors -- over 1600 years -- who were supernaturally inspired to record, not an instruction manual about what to do, but an Autobiography about who God is. The Bible is primarily about SomeOne to know… not Something to do! God gave us His Word for the purpose of revealing Who He Is. The Bible says...

God is One.  That means He alone is God. He has no rival and no equal. He is the only true and living God and He alone is to be worshiped and praised.

God is Three.  He is one God in three persons… God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. He has existed eternally and equally in three persons.

God is Creator and Sustainer.  He created everything and everyone in the universe and sustains what He has made by His Spirit.

God is Self-Existent.  That means He depends on no one or no thing for His existence. He is God all by Himself.

God is Transcendent. That means He is Beyond us… Bigger than us… Better than us. He is greater than what He has made and He stands apart from what He has made.

God is Immanent.  That means He is close. He doesn't stand outside of His creation but has chosen to enter into it. He is near. He is Present. He has made Himself known.

God is Immutable.  He never changes. The God who walked and talked with Adam and Eve is the same God who walks and talks with you. God does not have good days and bad days. He is God.

God is Eternal.  He is unbound and unrestricted by Time. He was before time and He will Be when time ends.

God is Infinite.  That means God is untouched, unhindered, unobstructed by any limitation or ceiling.

God is Omnipresent.  He is not limited by space. He is everywhere present all at the same time in all His fullness.

God is Omnipotent.  He has all power. There is nothing too big for Him. He can do anything… except fail.

God is Omniscient. He knows everything… even before it happens. He knows the end at the beginning. He knows every heart… every mind… and the contents of every soul.

God is Perfect… in Love… in Holiness… in Justice… in Grace… in Mercy… in Righteousness… in Truth… in Goodness. He is incapable of evil. All his judgments are perfect.

God is Personal. Which means that, in the fullness of time, God did not just send us a Book to tell us what He is like, but instead...

He put on flesh and stepped down into your neighborhood… as Jesus Christ. Jesus is God in the flesh… born of a virgin… lived a sinless life… walked on earth… did miracles… never did the things wrong that you and I do wrong. But they hung him on a cross… He was crucified for our sins… He died and was buried.

But on the third day… in a real moment of time… the stone was rolled away and God raised Jesus from the dead.

He appeared to the disciples… He appeared to 500 people… then He ascended up into Heaven where He rules and reigns at the right hand of the Father. And one day… as the Alpha and Omega… as the Righteous Judge… as Lord of lords and King of kings… He is coming back on the clouds of Heaven… for you and for me… and every knee will bow… and every knee will confess… that Jesus Christ is Lord… to the Glory of God the Father. Amen.

That's who God is…

The question is… do you know Him?

I did not see Jesus rise from the dead. I have not talked with a personal eyewitness who saw Jesus rise from the dead. I did not have a vision or an epiphany or a revelation of Jesus rising from the dead.

But 44 years ago today, February 27, 1977, I made the choice to believe Jesus rose from the dead… that He is God… that He is alive. And I invited Him to forgive my sins and come into my life as the Leader of my life. And all I can say is… my Life got way better… in every way!

Why do life on your own when you can walk personally with this Awesome God who loves you and created you? Invite Him into your heart right now.
