Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Jul 6, 2022

Several years ago, I was engaged to be married to a man I truly loved.

But about two months out from our wedding, everything was called off. One of these days, I’ll share the details with you as to what happened, but all I can say is that it was one of the most hurtful experiences that had ever happened to me! I remember crying out to God, asking Him, “Why?” I wanted answers for why He was allowing me to experience such heartache.

Now, years later, my perspective has significantly shifted. I’ve gone from being angry with God to full acceptance of His will for my life.

You see, in this situation, God was being what He’s always been; faithful.

He was protecting me from something that I thought I wanted. He was shielding me from future hurt and pain that I didn’t see coming. He was preserving me for the partner that would push me closer to Him. You see, what I viewed as an offense back then, I now see as a blessing. All I can say is, “Thank you, Lord, for Your faithfulness. Thank you for being my refuge, my shield.”

In Psalm 57, David had also experienced a trial, and his response was praise. He expresses His gratitude for God’s faithfulness in verses 9 through 11, saying:

I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be all over the earth.

What a beautiful response David teaches us. So, no matter what you’re facing - be it disappointment, rejection, heartbreak, or any trying circumstance - know that our God is faithful. Know that His ways are above our own and that you can run to Him in times of trouble. Trust that, when God is plucking you out of a situation, it isn’t to withhold anything great from you. Rather, embrace that He has something better for you in the works.

God is for you, and He is faithful.
