Heart Check
Four out of five Americans have had their hearts broken in some way, shape, or form.
You may have experienced a life-shattering event before that ended up turning your world upside down. Well, I am here to encourage you today that you are not alone. I, too, have had my fair share of unfortunate events that have led me to counseling sessions and seasons of healing. But the Bible says that “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). God wants to replace your pain with peace. He wants to replace your hurts with healing.
So, today, I encourage you to wrestle with the question: What is the condition of my heart? And am I still holding onto past hurts, regrets, or heartbreaks?
Psalm 26:2 prompts us to introspection, saying,
“Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and mind.”
- Psalm 26:2
The solution to our hurt and pain must be a surrendered heart and the willingness to heal. To surrender our hearts to Jesus is to acknowledge Our Healer, Our Advocate.
John 14:26-27 says,
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
- John 14:26-27
Family, when we experience a hurt and do not seek out help for our healing, the pain becomes ingrained into our very being. I encourage you to invite Jesus into your past hurts and find a trusted spiritual advisor or counselor to walk with you through your healing journey.
Lord, I pray for every person that has come here today. Father, You care when we’re hurting, and You desire healing and wholeness for us. May You give us the strength and discernment to see the areas You want to heal. In Your name, Amen.
