Kinda Hurry

"For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time."

- St. Paul, Romans 8:22

"A baby is God's opinion that the world should go on."

- Carl Sandberg

I saw it… and I can still hardly believe it! Now I understand how Peter and John could stand before the Empty Tomb. I mean they saw it, and still could hardly believe it. One thing I did learn this week, however, is this:

When you step into the Unexpected and the Unknown… trust me… Jesus will be more than enough!

Here's what happened....

Amy, our daughter-in-law, was due with her second child on Saturday, February 13, 2021. Candace and I were on "standby" to rush over at a moment's notice to watch our grandson, Fisher, so they could go to the hospital. Around 11 pm, Tyler texts me and says,

"Dad, I think it's starting."

"Should Mom and I come over?"

"No," Ty replies, "I'll let you know."

20 minutes later Tyler texts me and says,

"You can cruise on over now."

As we're getting in the car I get another text from Ty…

"Kinda hurry."

15 minutes later we pull into Ty's cul-de-sac and it looks like a war zone… a huge fire truck, two squad cars, a large ambulance… all with their lights flashing in my son's front yard! I jump out of the car and race up to the house and I see Amy, smiling weakly, on a gurney being attended to by paramedics. And then I look past her and see my son… holding a brand new little baby girl in his arms. He's covered with blood and beaming, and his daughter, crying,  is all nuzzled up in his arms. In total disbelief, I turn to the police officer next to me and ask,

"Did my son deliver his baby girl?"

"He sure did!" exclaimed the officer, "Mom and Dad were awesome!"

Apparently, Amy's water broke as she was walking to the door to leave for the hospital. Immediately, she was slammed with a massive contraction that brought her to her knees.

"Tyler!!!" she yelled, "I think the baby's coming right now, right here!"

Tyler could see and hear the fear in Amy's voice. Tyler said,

"Yes!"... the baby's coming… "Push Amy! Push!"

The next thing he knew, he’d caught his baby girl in his hands… picked her up… gently bounced her once in his arms, and she let out a cry… a good cry… and started to breathe. Tyler wrapped her up and said,

"I think we should call 911!"

6 minutes later all the emergency personnel arrived and confirmed… Mom and Baby and Dad were all good! Thank You, Jesus!

I mean… I saw it… and I can still hardly believe it. In Romans 8, the Apostle Paul declares that our God has been in the birthing business ever since the beginning of time… and it's not always a baby he's bringing into the world for you. Sometimes it's a friend who shows up in the nick of time… sometimes it's an unexpected financial gift that arrives in the 11th hour… sometimes it's good news on a bad news day… sometimes it's healing or help or hope that you thought would never come… and sometimes it's something you didn't even know you needed until it… until He… saved your life at just the right time.

"Kinda hurry," Tyler said to me in a situation that 5 minutes later was way over his head and way beyond his qualifications. Which is why, as Tyler and I followed the ambulance with Amy and Baby to the hospital, he looked at me and said,

"Dad, It Was All Jesus!"

There's something about "Kinda hurry" that says I'm not completely certain when or where or exactly what is going to happen… but I do believe that God has it handled and behind the scenes has a perfect time table for cooking up something extraordinarily great that will ultimately bless us and honor Jesus! It's the confidence that the God who reigns and rules over heaven and earth is watching over you… right here… right now!

Jesus came back from the dead just because He wants an eternal relationship with you! That's not a myth, a fable, or a fabrication… that's the truth. That means Jesus can do whatever He wants, whenever He wants, however He wants… and no one knows that better than a new baby girl named, Dottie!

If you're longing for Jesus to birth something wonderful in your life or in your family or in the life of a friend… why not look up in the confidence that God has it all in hand and whisper… "Kinda hurry!"
