Little This, Little That

Nov 23, 2022

Thanksgiving is just around the corner so… food has really been on my mind lately!

My grandmother is an amazing cook - she can make the most amazing meals out of nothing. She’s from Louisiana and I just believe they’re built differently in the South! I mean, the food is amazing. But one of the things I’m always impressed by when she cooks is she never measures anything, and she never uses recipes. She cooks from the soul! She’ll add a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, and voilá! You’ve had the best meal of your life. When I think of the miracles my grandmother does in the kitchen, I also think about God and how He makes the most beautiful things out of the least likely.

You see, God is without error - He doesn’t make mistakes. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. And when it comes to us, He loves our quirks and the things that make us unique.

No matter how much you feel you’ve messed up, know that He factored in your shortcomings and still decided to send His only Son to die for you - you are so special to Him. In fact, 1 Peter 2:9 says that you are chosen and adopted into His royal priesthood. Listen, He loves you just the way you are, but also loves you too much to leave you the same way. So, in the spirit of my grandmother’s cooking, I want to encourage you today, to let God add a little of this and take out a little of that in your life. Allow Him to deeply transform you. Romans 12:2 (MSG) says:

“Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

- Romans 12:2 (MSG)

There might be an area of your life that you have yet to allow God to transform.

Maybe it’s the unhealthy relationship in your life, the friends that keep pulling you back into old ways, a personal struggle, or an addiction. As Christians, we are to live counter-culturally. And I get it…  The world is pulling you in so many different directions. But if you continue to fix your eyes on Jesus, He will mold you more into His likeness.

Let God deeply transform you. Allow Him to add a lot more of Him and a little less of you.
