Overcomers In Christ!

Pastor Jared defined Pergamum (Revelation 2:12-17) as the Las Vegas of the New Testament. As he put it, “Don’t let your children spring break in Pergamum.” In Revelation 2:13, John describes it as “where Satan has his throne.” It was the devil’s playground.

Sometimes we feel like we live in Pergamum right where we are, where evil surrounds us and seeks to destroy our children, our values and our very lives. Circumstances and situations seek to undermine us to the point where we can become exhausted and hopeless.

Yet, hope is not lost, for we can take heart in knowing that “greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.”  

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 8:37 that we are “more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.” In Him, we are overcomers.

John writes in 1 John 5:4-5,

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

As Mandisa wrote in her song Overcomer:

Feeling like it's hopeless

That's when He reminds You

That you're an overcomer

Regardless of what the world throws at us or what obstacles it places in our way, we are not defeated, for we are overcomers, more than conquerors in Jesus Christ our Lord.
