This week we are featuring guest devotionals written by members of our congregation. Today, Aushiree Boynes:

“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”

- Ecclesiastes 3:1 NLT

It seems like I’m always in a season of change. The company I work for is rearranging the cubicle space layout that affects my work area… I received a promotion… there’s the daily parenting adventures… I’m in the process of searching for a new house... Unwelcome recurring fatigue shows up and slows down my go-getter drive, and like most, I’m chasing entrepreneurial endeavors.

Some call their season of change the “pandemic push”, “forever student”, “parenting”, “my journey” or “retirement”. No matter what you decide to call it, God calls it a plan. Are you being flexible and accepting His plan? Do you turn in, or turn away, in that season?

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

- Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

Whether the changes in life are exhilarating or undesirable, minor, or major, the transformation process often feels overwhelming, nonetheless. Change is constant and so is God’s truth. God’s purpose is in each season, and each season means rearranging a version of you to let go and let God in.

Change requires different demands of yourself and your relationship with God.

You may need to rearrange your prayer time. You might be busier as you take on new tasks. You might be in a season of rest and need to change your activities. Your environment and associations transform as you rearrange your life for the season you’re in. Family, work, and God time will need to go through some uncomfortable changes to move into the promises He has for you.

We don’t always understand the plan in the moment, but if you’re intentional about seeking God’s purpose and trusting His will, then you must be willing to change and accept the rearranging being done around you. Become okay with the unpredictable and unfamiliar.

Prayer: Lord please give me the nudge I need to go beyond my comfort zone into my destiny. Clear my eyes to see the plans You have in store for me. Help me to accept the rearranging You’re doing, especially when I don’t understand it. I want to be welcoming of changes that come my way. I need You, Lord. Forgive me if I lose sight and let go of time with You. Help me embrace restructuring my relationships. Block me from hyper-focusing on the unimportant changes. Hold my hand through the beautiful and challenging ever changing mess of home, work, and personal life. Rearranging is scary, stressful and requires letting go of what I’m used to. You’re constant, and provide me with the motivation, identity, and strength. Lord, You won’t give me a plan or lesson that I can’t withstand. Use every part of the changes in my life for Your glory. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

“I am the Lord, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.

- Malachi 3:6 NLT

“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”

- 2 Corinthians 5:17

“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

- Ephesians 4:23-24 NLT
