This One’s Personal
5 Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
my hope comes from him.
6 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
7 My salvation and my honor depend on God;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.
8 Trust in him at all times, you people;
pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
- Isaiah 62:5-8
Last Thursday evening, Pam and I attended Worship Night at The Church at RB. I’ve been dealing with some health issues as of late, so about an hour before, Pam asked if I was up to going. My response, “I feel like I should be there for the church, but more importantly, I need to be there for me. I need a worship night.” Candidly, I did not have a clue as to how much I needed Worship Night.
A couple of songs in, Garden Music and friends began singing “Build My Life” by Pat Barrett.
I joined in and sang:
Worthy of every song we could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
Jesus, the name above every other name
Jesus, the only one who could ever save
Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe
We live for You
Then, as I began to sing the next stanza, tears began to stream down my face and onto my neck. I could not stop crying as I sang these words:
Holy, there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
Show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love to those around me
And just when I thought I might get control of my emotions, the song moved to these words:
I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
The tears just flowed.
Now, I realize I cannot recreate that experience in this devotional, nor can I make you feel what I felt, but this I know…
Regardless of what I am up against, Jesus is my rock, my salvation, and my refuge. He is my firm foundation. There is no one like Him and I will put my trust in Him alone.
Then when I finally felt like I could pull it together, the worship team moved into “Way Maker” by Leeland.
And You are
Way maker, miracle worker
Promise keeper, light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are
Even when I don't see it, You're workin'
Even when I don't feel it, You're workin'
You never stop, You never stop workin'
You never stop, Jesus You are
Way maker, miracle worker
Promise keeper, light in the darkness
My God, that is who You are
No matter what you are up against, lean on Jesus. He is the Way Maker, Promise Keeper, and Light in your Darkness. He is working in your life to bring you peace in the midst of the storm, joy when you are overcome by sorrow, and hope when all seems lost.
Trust Him, surrender to Him, and live for Him, for He is worthy of all the praise we could ever bring. Oh, and next time, don’t miss Worship Night. Love you all!
