Today Is A Gift
“Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That is why they call it the present.”
- Alice Morse Earle
This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
- Psalm 118:24
Mondays get a bad rap. Yeah, I know it is the first day of the workweek and the kids have to go back to school after a fun weekend, but, what if we truly embraced Mondays as the gift from God that it is. Rather than waking up and saying, “Good god, it’s morning,” what if we were to start our day saying, “Good morning, God!”
Pastor and author Chuck Swindoll once wrote,
“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.”
Every morning, including Monday, is an opportunity for us to receive the gift God has given us and embrace what lies ahead. We can choose to begrudgingly lumber into each day, or we can enthusiastically charge into them with joy in our hearts and praise on our lips. It is our choice, but whatever choice we make, and the attitude we have, will often determine how the day plays out.
I love the way John Mitchell put it,
“Our attitude towards life determines life’s attitude toward us.”
The Bible is filled with verses to help us embrace the day and make the most of it. Here are just a few…
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
- Philippians 4:13
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.”
- Jeremiah 29:11
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
- Proverbs 3:5-6
For with God, nothing is impossible.
- Luke 1:37
Every good and perfect gift comes from above.
- James 1:17
I believe I will see the goodness of the Lord.
- Psalm 27:13
Perhaps this is the moment for which you have been created.
- Esther 4:14
Meditate on these verses and claim them for yourself this week.
Embrace today, and every day, as a gift from God. It is “The Present.”
