Who Are Your People?
One of the things that I often reflect on is the community God sent into my life when I first got saved.
There I am, committed to a growing relationship with the Lord, and knowing that my current circle wasn’t going to feed me spiritually. So I was faced with a decision… to find a church family and godly community to help push me towards the things of Christ. I remember specifically, the worship pastor taking the time to get to know me, connect with me, and ultimately befriend me.
This was monumental to my walk with the Lord. I have found that our journeys can ebb & flow. There may be seasons when we are on fire for the Lord and others when it feels like we’re in a drought. Either way, community is the bridge that keeps you connected to your faith. Community is that reminder to not give up on God. Community is what we need when we’re facing storms.
God will use our community to meet us in the high and low places.
So who are your people? And are those people going to push you toward the things of God? 1 Corinthians 1:10 encourages us to be connected with people who will give us advice through the lens of our faith, not our flesh, saying:
“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”
- 1 Corinthians 1:10
Family, this is one of the many reasons why I believe Group Life is important.
You’re surrounded by like-minded people who desire to grow in the area of their faith. And in that, you’re building relationships with each other and with God. What a beautiful combination! And when you do go through those tough seasons (we’ve all been there), you have a community to rally around you, pray for you, and lean on.
Galatians 6:2 says:
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
- Galatians 6:2
God never meant for us to be alone or to do this thing called “life” solo.
His desire for us all is to have godly relationships full of compassion. There is a beautiful exchange that takes place when we Go First in our relational connection according to Romans 1:11-12:
“I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong—
that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.”
- Romans 1:11-12
When we embrace community, we receive encouragement and are used to encourage others in the faith.
This weekend is your opportunity to get into community by joining a table group. Group leaders will be in the lobby to meet you and answer any questions you may have about their group. Take this week to prayerfully choose a group fit for you and then sign up. I can assure you God will meet you there once you take the leap.
Don’t let 2023 be another year of isolation.
