“Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts.”

- Janice Maeditere

If there was ever a year we needed the hope, joy and peace of Christmas, it is definitely this year. More than ever, this Christmas will not be about the gifts under the tree, but all about the BEST gift of all… Jesus!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

- Isaiah 9:6

We recently learned that due to travel and safety concerns, our family will not be gathering this year for Christmas. But, we are not nixing Christmas. First, Pam and I will celebrate the true Reason for the Season on Christmas Day as we remember the One who came from Heaven to Earth to be born of a virgin, with one eye already on the Cross. Jesus came, not just to walk the earth, but to live a sinless life, setting the perfect example before us. He then died a horrific death on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, a debt we owed for a price we could not pay. Then, on Easter Sunday morning, God raised Him from the grave to offer us new life in Him. There is no greater gift!

But, secondly, one day, God willing and the opportunity becomes available, our family will gather and celebrate Christmas. It may take place in February, maybe in March, but when it does, it will be a sweet time to come together and remember as a family the precious gift God gave us in His Son, Jesus Christ. The day does not matter to us, for we celebrate Him 365 days a year.

The best gift of all is Jesus… all through the year. May this Christmas simply remind us of that truth and set the tone for the year to come.
