Alpha & Omega

Dec 14, 2022

We’re in a celebratory time of year that brings such nostalgia.

Family traditions and festivities are happening almost weekly while we posture ourselves to celebrate King Jesus this Christmas. Amid this Advent season, we get to refocus our hearts toward hope, peace, and today, joy.

Revelation 1:8 (NIV) reads:

“I am the Alpha and the Omega,' says the Lord God, 'who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.'

- Revelation 1:8

If you’ve been a Christian for some time, you may have heard this passage before, or some version of it.

We hear God referred to as Alpha & Omega quite often, but what does it mean?

In the Greek, it means the beginning and the end. And what that means to me is that Jesus is eternal. He was there before creation; He’s there amid creation; He will be there for all of eternity.

This means we can trust Him in all seasons of our lives because He’s a “big picture” God.

He sees everything top to bottom, knowing how things will turn out in our lives. This is why we can have joy, because we serve a God who is omnipresent. This is why Scripture tells us in Deuteronomy 31:8,

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

- Deuteronomy 31:8

Family, no matter what you’re going through, choose joy this season. In fact, make a point to share your story with someone. Gift them with a testimony of God’s faithfulness in your life.

And if you’re going through a trying time now, share that with them, too. And let them know that you are choosing joy in this season even when you’re not sure of the outcome. Not only will this give people the opportunity to rally around you and be there for you but, it will activate your faith.

Demonstrate to others that you’re choosing joy in the midst of your trials.

Joy isn’t something that can be altered by people, circumstances, or obstacles because it comes from the Father.

So, whether or not this is a celebratory time for you, your problems are temporary but the Good News is that Jesus is eternal. He is the Alpha and the Omega. The beginning and the end.

So Father, I pray for every person here today. Lord, give them what they need for today. You are all-knowing and Almighty. You are with them in the midst of their circumstances.

So, may they live out today in light of your goodness. We ask these things in Your name, Amen.
