Fearfully And Wonderfully Made
“As I look back on my life, I am filled with gratitude. All the sadness, all the joys, all the failures, all the triumphs, have created who I am today. I am the beautiful soul God has created me to be… and I am truly blessed.”
- Linda A.
Sometimes it is so easy to look back on our lives and ask, “What if?”
What if:
...I had finished my college education?
...I had pursued that career I wanted to pursue?
...I had loved my spouse better?
...I had not said those hurtful things to my son or daughter?
...My sister had not been killed in an automobile accident?
...I had not been diagnosed with cancer?
...I had not drank so much alcohol?
...I had come to know Jesus earlier in my life?
There are so many decisions we can look back at and ask, “What if?” Would my life be better had I done this or not done that? What if this had happened or that had not happened? Who would I be today?
We often base the value and success of our life on what we have done or what has happened to us, when, our value, our worth, and our success, are solely based on who we are in Christ.
In Psalm 139:13-14, King David writes,
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
God made us, He is with us, and He takes delight in us.
John the Apostle writes in 1 John 3:1,
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
We are not blessed because of our circumstances, but because of who we are in Jesus. It really is all that matters. Most of the circumstances of this life are far beyond our control, and even those that are in our control, are simply a part of our story, of who God created us to be. We are all a work in progress, but just like the Virgin Mary when Gabriel appeared to her in Luke 1 to announce the coming Messiah, we, too, “are blessed and highly favored.”
Not because we say so due to the circumstances of our lives, but because God says so because of who we are to Him – His precious creation.
