First Love Fire
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the importance of not losing the first love fire for the Lord.
Let me share with you what I mean by that. Our God is to be revered. His presence is sacred. And our posture must never be desensitized to our Creator Redeemer.
Do you recall a time when you were just head over heels in love with Jesus? I mean, to the point that you couldn’t stop talking or thinking about him.
I remember for my high school graduation, my mom gifted me a car. It was a 2001 Lexus IS 300, silver, with leather interior – it was beautiful! And I treated that car with the utmost care. I got it washed every week; I kept the tank full; I parked it a mile down the parking lot so no one would scratch it. All of sudden, I wanted to drive everywhere! My friends were happy because I was picking them up constantly – they never had to drive. Well, all of that lasted for about six months. Then the honeymoon phase wore off. I wasn’t getting it washed as much. I had forgotten to fill up the tank and ran out of gas a few times. And I didn’t want to drive anywhere.
And I just wonder if we’ve been treating our faith the same way. We start off fired up about Jesus and after a certain amount of time, we become desensitized to Him and His presence.
I want to encourage you today: Don’t be desensitized by the things of God. Now is not the time to be complacent or even comfortable in our faith. If we are, we’re in a dangerous place.
1 Corinthians 15:58 says,
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
- 1 Corinthians 15:58
Being on fire for God isn’t just about enjoying the time you spend with Him, but it’s also maintaining a passion to fulfill His will in your life. It’s being okay with taking the risks that come with faith because you value obedience. It’s being committed to living a life “set apart” because you know He’s called you to more. Don’t just be on fire for fire’s sake. Be on fire because you prioritize the inner workings of God in your life. Be on fire because the Holy Spirit is alive and well, waiting for a willing vessel to use on the earth.
So stand firm family, in the faith that brought you to the foot of the cross. My prayer is that we will bring back that first love fire for Jesus.
