I Am Yours
“When we remember our identity in Christ, it changes the way we see relationships because we no longer base our worth on the approval of others but the approval we have already received from our Father through the work of His Son.”
- Amy E. Spiegel
18 years ago, Casting Crowns recorded a worship song entitled “Who am I?”
Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For an ever wandering heart
Not because of who I am
But because of what You’ve done
Not because of what I’ve done
But because of who You are
In just a few words, the writer, Mark Hall, captured the very essence of our Identity in Christ.
It does not matter what we have done; it does not matter how other people see us; it does not matter what labels others have placed upon us, and it does not even matter what we think of ourselves. What does matter is what Jesus Christ did for us on the cross, and as a result, how our Father in Heaven sees us and values us.
The lyrics of the song go on to say...
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I’m calling
Lord, You catch me when I’m falling
And You’ve told me who I am
I am Yours
In Ephesians 1:11, The Apostle Paul writes,
It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. (The Message)
He goes on in Ephesians 2:10,
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (NLT)
I encourage you… in fact, I implore you… to begin living your life, not dependent on the approval and labels of others, but on the only truth that really matters.
Who are you? You are a child of the Most High God. You are His valuable and precious possession.
He made you on purpose and with a purpose. Believe it...and live it!
