I Can Help!
“Helping one person may not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person.”
- Unknown
Jesus Christ humbled Himself, setting aside His rights as God, to come to earth in the form of man to be crucified on a cross on our behalf, to pay a penalty He did not owe because we owed a penalty we could not pay. In doing so, Jesus offered to us the forgiveness of our sins and new life in Him. And one day, we will join Him in Heaven for all of eternity.
What does He ask for in return? To love Him and to follow Him. To deny ourselves and take up our cross daily, putting the needs of others before our own. Jesus offered Himself as a living sacrifice for us, and asks us to do the same for others. In Matthew 25, verses 34-40, he explains what that looks like:
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
We may never see, in this lifetime, the full results of what we do for others, but Jesus sees. And we may not change the world by what we do, but we may indeed change the world for one person.
All it takes is saying, “I can help.” You will be amazed at what God will do through you.
