“I raise up my voice - not so I can shout, but so that those without a voice can be heard.”

-  Malala Yousafzai

Mike Foster continued our Raise Your Voice summer series this past Sunday, reminding us that the voices we listen to determine the voice we share. As Mike put it, “The message we take in will determine the mission we live out.” Input determines output, or as the old computer saying goes, “Garbage IN, Garbage OUT.”

As Christ-followers, we have the privilege of having the right voice and the right message available to us at all times. In John 16:13, we read,

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears.

We have the assurance of knowing that the power of the Holy Spirit is available to us and that He speaks with the authority of God. His voice gives us the confidence and the ability to raise our voice for things that matter… better marriages, stronger families, feeding the poor and hungry… and against greed and lying and injustice.

Our voice matters, and when we raise our voice for the things that are important, we have an opportunity to make a positive difference in our homes, our workplaces, our neighborhoods, our community, our nation and around the world.

As author William Faulkner put it so well,

“Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty and truth and compassion and against injustice, lying and greed. If people all over the world would do this, it would change the earth.”

Stephen Covey challenges and encourages us with these words,

“Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs.”

Let us be a people who raise our voices for the things that matter to God in this world.
