“I know my rightful place as a child of God;

I am blessed and highly favored.

I am protected and delivered from every evil.

I am redeemed and set free from all bondages in Jesus Name.”

- Lailah Gifty Akita

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

- The Apostle Paul, Romans 8:14-16

In 2003 Casting Crowns recorded a song called Who I am. The lyrics are a powerful reminder of “Whose we are.”

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth

Would care to know my name

Would care to feel my hurt

Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star

Would choose to light the way

For my ever wandering heart

Not because of who I am

But because of what You've done

Not because of what I've done

But because of who You are

As Pastor Jared reminded us yesterday, who I am is not determined by what I have done or what has been done to me, but by what Christ has done for me.

And because of what Jesus did for us, when we choose to believe in Him, we become Children of God.

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

- John 1:12-13

So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith.

- Galatians 3:26

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

- I John 3:1

It does not matter where you have been, what you have done or what has been done to you. What matters is what Christ has done for you. And because of what He has done, who you are, your identity, gets enveloped in the greatest blessing of all – WHOSE you are.

YOU are a Child of God. And in Him, we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS!
